Rotary Club of Colleyville Saddened by Ruggeri’s Loss
The Rotary Club of Colleyville has been holding our weekly meetings at Ruggeri’s Restaurant for many years. The restaurant was a delightful location with great food and beautiful decor. More importantly, the owners and employees at Ruggeri’s are our friends.
We wish everyone at Ruggeri’s all the best – our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Ruggeri’s Fire Spread Amazingly Fast
The Ruggeri’s fire spread quickly. The roof collapsed within minutes. Fire crews from Colleyville and six surrounding cities battled the fire for hours to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. Minutes before the flames destroyed Ruggeri’s, there were customers and staff inside who had no idea they were in danger.
Guardian Angel Jerry Ducay Evacuates Building
Colleyville City Manager Jerry Ducay was a guardian angel in getting everyone out of the Ruggeri’s building safely. One of the most important factors in fire safety is getting everyone out of a burning building as soon as possible.

“We walked out of City Hall. We noticed an odor in the air, and we decided to drive by on our way to see if there was anything to it,” said Colleyville City Manager Jerry Ducay. Ducay, his son, and the assistant city manager saw smoke and went inside.
“There were about 6 or 8 people in the restaurant. There were a couple of couples that were sitting, having lunch. I said, ‘Excuse me, I believe there’s a fire in this building. I’d ask you to please leave.’ ”
They called 911, pulled the fire alarm, and ran upstairs to Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation. Everyone hurried outside.
“And by the time we came out, we noticed the flames had broken through the roof,” said Ducay.
The Ruggeri’s building is a total loss. Fire crews believe the fire started in the second floor or roof. There is no word yet from the fire department regarding of the official cause of the fire.
